Weave it Well in This New Decade! - January 2020 Newsletter

Weave it Well

"The real secret to success is getting that clarity about what you want to attract into your life, and then creating powerful habits to ensure that you are doing YOUR part to bring success to you".

With a new decade one can only go forward. An opportunity to garner a renewal, the chance to shift, to revise and to reinvent healthier behaviors.

1. Start with aspirations

Goals can be over whelming. I find breaking them down into simple steps and incorporating habits that lean towards making goals achievable.

For example, sleeping better is a goal of mine. Research shows the importance of sleep on our well being and the ability to better perform throughout the day. I know that I sleep better when I get to the gym. I make it a priority and allocate time that works best for me to be at the gym least 3 times a week and I make the effort to get there. When I am outside, whether hiking, snow shoeing or skiing I have the BEST sleep.

I keep track of my hikes and try to surpass the number of hikes each year. I also add a few notes like which mountain and friends that I hiked with. Each time I record a new hike, I am able to reflect back on a previous hike and pushes me to surpass the number of hikes I do each year.

2. Make it Happen

This applies to any goal or aspiration you might have. Take the time to cultivate routines and habits that nurture you. The New year offers the opportunity to strive, revise and shift towards healthier behavior that always result in feeling good at the end the day.

Imagine weaving a beautiful fabric - how would you weave and harness each knit that produces this beautiful fabric that is you.

So, what are you nurturing or eliminating this decade? Ensure that you honor yourself, your time, and resources and be clear that at the end of the day your purpose should be feeling good about your outcomes, habits and your contributions to your world.

James Clear in his book Atomic Habits talks about tiny changes and how rituals can help start a new habit and break bad ones. A great book to add to your reading list.

3. Charity Begins with you

Charity is a humongous word - the definition of charity is different and varied among family members and even co-workers. Where does one begin? Simple aspirations toward being charitable can be impactful. Seva defines it best. Seva is simply being of service to others. Seva in its purest form can be the most meaningful of gifts: kindness, patience, and acceptance of others, and Seva extends beyond family and those we know.

Wharton professor Adam Grant’s book Give and Take shows that the most successful people at the workplace tend to be the ones that give selflessly to others without expectation of returned favors. Reciprocity produces the most dramatic result and is a very effective tool for making friends and adding happiness to your day.

4. Your Best is Required Every Day

Gordan Wainwright writes about personal attractiveness. You can be more attractive if you are willing to put some effort into achieving such a goal. He adds that anyone can increase their attractiveness if they maintain good eye contact, dress well and add a dash of color to their wardrobe and listen well.

He suggests that if for one week you stand straight, tuck your stomach and hold your head high and smile at those you meet you will be treated with more warmth and respect. Give his experiment a try.

5. Have fun

This is the most important thread in your fabric. When I used to drop my son off at school, as he jumped out of the vehicle he would say “Have Fun Mommy". It got me seriously reconsidering if I was infusing my days with enough joy and play. Thanks to him, I am careful to have as much fun as possible in all that I do.

Life is what we make it to be. Take the time to incorporate what makes you feel good and fine tune how you weave and what threads you incorporate into your beautiful fabric.
