St. Patrick’s Day

Regardless of your heritage, you are most likely aware of St Patrick’s Day. What started out as an Irish holiday, it’s now celebrated by people of all backgrounds in countries with large ex-patriate populations like Canada, the United States, Australia, and even in other locations far from Ireland like Japan, Singapore, and Russia.

St Patrick’s Day has historically been the day that the Irish recognize St Patrick, the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. St Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland.

Today, St Patrick’s Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: green, shamrocks, leprechauns, and luck (and don’t forget the whiskey!). Enjoy the day under the protection of these lovely Irish blessings:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through! Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!
